Little Changes DO Matter

We all want the BIG results. We all want to get to our large goals fast. Is this possible? Is this sustainable? Is this workable?
Most of the time my answer to that is no. As humans most of us don't actually like change. Change is stressful. Our minds and bodies prefer homeostasis, the familiar. This desire for "same" is especially true when we are tired, stressed or low energy. We all truly have only so much will power or ego power each day.
So how DO we make changes in our lives?
Little by little. Small changes. Small shifts. These are much more doable, manageable and most importantly, SUSTAINABLE.
Do you want to improve your health? Don't attempt a radically new way of eating. Look to improve or shift ONE aspect. Week one, add more lean protein. Week two, add some more veggies. Week three, swap out some sugary snacks or more nutritionally dense snacks. Don't try to eliminate huge groups of food. It is not sustainable.
Want to get more fit? Don't attempt some intense new workout schedule. Instead, walk. Go for a walk. Every human can do that in some fashion. Go slow. Speed is not the issue. Just do some walking. Do some stretching. At home. In comfy clothes. Just start to move your body.
Small changes in action will tend to not illicit any huge resistance from your system. So we can begin to move ourselves in a certain "better" direction but not have a huge struggle with ourselves or our past habits.
When you make these small changes, cheer yourself on. We all need encouragement and support. Often when we are making shifts there is no one to notice. You can notice. You can affirm the change in action. Literally tell yourself that you are doing a good job. Literally pat yourself on the back. Literally cheer for yourself. It helps.
Here is to small change! Woo hoo! Go us!
